Final Video

Evaluation Task 4: How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

I used a vlog to explain the different types of media technologies that I used through all the stages of creating my music video and also for the tasks that I did after I created my music video. This allows me to clearly explain the online and physical aspects of media technology that contributed to all aspects of the coursework that I had to do.

Evaluation Task 3: What have you learned from your audience feedback?

These are the analytics that I have collected from YouTube about the viewing of my music video. I have annotated these with more information and analysis of what I have learnt from them.

This is the audience feedback that I have received and an explanation, justification or observation of what I have learnt from it.

Audience feedback from Olivia Gardiner

I have learnt a lot from the audience feedback that I have received; most of it has reassured me that my music video has been effective at portraying the storyline. The editing I chose to use as well, such as stop-motion, slow motion, sped up and the filters I used have also been recognised and appreciated.

For the future I have also been given some constructive criticism such as the fact that I may have wanted to include some more lip-syncing shots. I was also given the suggestion of given one of the versions of the woman a different filter to help distinguish between them. Most of the advice is minor and subjective to personal opinion. I have taken this feedback onboard and will keep it in mind next time I make a video, especially if it is a music video.

I got two people who take media studies to give me some extra verbal feedback on top of my analytics and written feedback. I believe that since they are both media students they know what to look out for and so will give an honest and technical view on my music video. This adds to the variety of feedback that I collected.

Evaluation Task 2: How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Evaluation Task 1: Directors Commentary on the Use of Real Media

My directors commentary explores the inspiration of 'real media' in the form of other music videos. There are certain conventions of the real media that I do challenge, such as the male and female gaze. My video doesn't meet the normal conventions of a music video where there is a sexist view that use angles and camera shots to sexualise either the male or female body. I don't believe this was a convention of mainstream media that I need in order to make an effective music video. The inspiration from the 'real media' music videos also mainly don't conform to the idea of the male gaze.
The idea of my music video is inspired from multiple different music videos but the overview was my own original idea. The 'real media' inspired me to use special and a vary of different techniques to make my story as clear and symbolic as possible.
The two actresses in my video are supposed to be the same person but at different stages of their life. The older woman wishes to return to the past and be young again, through the uses of the reverse technique and stop motion I was able to emphasise this. The younger girl is supposed to be more adventurous yet hesitant about what the future holds. i achieve this through the scenes of her running forward but with an editing that causes her to move back one step for every two steps she moves forward. The singular scene of her in the city beside the garage foreshadows the fear she has for her future, which is emphasised through her repeatedly covering her face. The ending of my video with the walk towards the house and then the jumpy camera landing on the doorknob represents a return to reality. This shows the two versions of the same person morphing and becoming one again, returning home to her comfort zone.
Although the plot was my own original idea 'real media' has been important in inspiring me to use certain editing techniques to real emphasise my storyline.

Choice of Final Video

I have finished editing my video but am now deciding between the two versions that I have created. The second version includes for quick changes in clips at the beginning that may better match the beat. However the first version has more of a flow to it and may be a more enjoyable watch. This is something I have to contemplate before publishing my final choice.
